Mount Saint Helens

The volcano Mount Saint Helens in southwestern Washington
State USA is the focus of this single-terrain Landscape File. The simulation
includes a full texture showing color shaded relief (with water bodies in
blue) and two partial textures created from natural-color and color-infrared
combinations of Landsat image bands. Each texture layer covers only its
visible image area (they are not padded with transparent null cells to match
the extent of the terrain). In addition, the file includes several billboard
point overlays. One billboard overlay (TriLatPts) uses stalked symbols to show
locations of survey stations used to monitor the volcano. This overlay was
created from 3D vector points, and is turned on by default when you open the
Landscape File. The other two billboard overlays can be turned on using the
Layer menu; they were created from 2D vector points, and so must be selected
for viewing with a particular terrain (even though there is only one terrain
in this particular Landscape File). These two overlays show locations of
visitor centers, ranger stations, and radio towers; their symbols were
designed to sit on the terrain surface. If you edit the positions of symbols
in the 2D billboard overlays, the symbols will remain on the surface as you
move them. If you edit points in the 3D TriLatPts overlay, each stalked point
retains its stored 3D elevation and so the stalk base may lie above or below
the terrain in its new location.
