Features of MI/X
Choose X or Microsoft Windows Desktop
As illustrated, MI/X
can be optionally setup to operate in Windows Desktop (rootless) mode or X Desktop (full-screen)
mode.
In Windows Desktop
mode each X client window will appear as a separate window intermixed
with any Microsoft windows which are also open. All MS Window's icons,
taskbar, and other desktop features are still available on this rootless desktop.
In X Desktop mode
a large X window is opened at the size you specify which can be smaller,
equal to, or much larger than the resolution supported by your display
board (see below for virtual X Desktop operation). All your X client
windows will then appear on this X Desktop. Since MI/X is simply another
Microsoft Windows application, If you want to access your Windows desktop
you can iconify this large X window or use any of the other methods
provided by Windows.

Choose a Large Virtual X Desktop
If you choose to use
the X Desktop mode you can make your desktop or workspace much larger than
your current monitor. All the X client windows you open can then be
positioned anywhere on this virtual desktop. Your monitor's view area can
be repositioned instantly to any position on this virtual desktop using
scroll bars or the small auxiliary Workspace Overview window which
automatically appears when you set up a virtual X Desktop. The
illustrations below show how MicroImages uses this virtual X Desktop or
workspace to view images and other map data much larger than the monitor
and how the Workspace Overview window provides a synoptic view of the X
client windows on this desktop and the interactive tools to move your real
view over them.
Set Preferences
MI/X's Preferences window is where you can set up the size of the X
Desktop or workspace. It also provides a means to calibrate the scale of
the real view, set the background color of the desktop, toggle on and off
the Overview window, the title bar, and so on.

Direct support for TrueType fonts
MI/X will automatically find all
TrueType fonts that Windows knows about and make them available to
X clients as scaled fonts. TrueType fonts are presented to the X
client as iso10646-1 (Unicode), which means that X clients get
access to the full range of glyphs in the fonts. This is
illustrated by some of MicroImages' use of TrueType fonts in connection
with our other TNT professional products.

Span Multiple Display Monitors
MI/X supports the use
of multiple display boards and multiple monitors in either X or Windows
Desktop modes. If your MS Windows is running spanning several monitors
then MI/X will also span across them as illustrated below with results
from other MicroImages TNT professional products.
