ChromaDepth
TNTmips has many ways of
presenting 3D geo data, including support for several hardware devices. Of
these, ChromaDepth images are perhaps the most vivid and easy to create. 3D
data is encoded into the image hues, with blues assigned to elements
farthest into the image and red for those closest to the viewer. A simple
pair of glasses make the third dimension visible. The glasses can be
ordered from ChromaTek
for a reasonable price.
How do you make these images
with TNTmips?
- First you need a DEM and a
grayscale image corresponding to the same geographic area. (You may need
to resample the rasters to the same row/column size).
- Color map your DEM (in the TNT
Display process) using the standard chromadepth color pallete.
- Use
Process/Raster/Combine/Color Convert to split the DEM into 3 bands,
using the RGB option to allow for easier adjustments using contrast
enhancements.
- Finally, use the RGBI display
option with I being the grayscale image.
View the results with a pair of
ChromaTek's, ChromoDepth 3D glasses.
